A/Prof Sasha Senthi is a leading Lung Cancer Radiation Oncologist and clinical researcher in the use of Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SABR or SBRT). He trained at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and completed a PhD and Fellowship in the world-renowned Amsterdam UMC. His PhD described several world firsts in the use of Stereotactic Radiotherapy and how to optimize the survivorship of people after treatment.
He has been a member Trans Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) Lung Cancer Committee and then Chair of the TROG Scientific Committee and Board Member. This group oversees and prioritises radiation therapy research in Australia and New Zealand. At Monash University, he mentors other Radiation Oncologists and researchers and has a laboratory looking to optimize the combination of Radiotherapy and Immunotherapy. Through Harvard University he completed a Masters degree with a project to widely disseminate advanced treatment techniques to they are available to more people, particularly those in regional Victoria.
A/Prof Senthi has expertise in treating people throughout their lung cancer journey. This includes people with early stage lung cancer, detected by screening who are not fit for or looking to avoid surgery or people with widely metastatic stage IV cancer. For people with metastatic cancer, he has published multiple studies showing how stereotactic radiotherapy can improve survival and maintain quality of life.
